Plagiocephaly Strabismus

Plagiocephaly is a condition that exists when a child's head retains a flat spot on their head, likely due to the constant pressure applied when the child sleeps on its back, with its head consistently resting on the same spot, usually the right side.

Also called positional or occipital plagiocephaly, the condition usually corrects itself after a few months when the child is able to sit upright and even out the head's asymmetrical shape. In cases when the plagiocephaly does not correct itself, the results are typically minor and do not cause any brain disorders or further deformities.

In more severe cases of plagiocephaly, however, either inherited or due to trauma or brain injury, strabismus - a visual condition that exists when the eyes focus on different points - may be an accompanying condition. In these cases, strabismus is not a cause of plagiocephaly, but rather an effect of it.
